About Lansbury Productions
Lansbury Productions grew out of a long-standing group, the Lansbury Players, which has a 40-year history of theatre in East London. The new name was chosen in 2008 in conjunction with various changes in direction: with our move to Greenwich Playhouse for several shows in 2008, we are not only moving outside our old limits of Tower Hamlets, but also stepping forward to a greater degree of professionalism. The Players still exist as a vehicle for fun events and more experimental projects.
We are still a locally-based group, and rehearse at Bow. Many of our members are from the area, although others come from across London.
Our main focus is of course on producing plays for public performance; we are also looking at other ways to encourage community participation in the dramatic arts - it's extraordinary that in a borough with the size of Tower Hamlets, there are so few theatrical venues, and so few groups in operation - and this will become an increasing part of our mission in the next few years.
